Aims, contents and method of the course
1st Part: Detailed presentation of organic chemical methods well established and applied in biochemistry and molecular biology: Peptide synthesis, oligonucleotide synthesis, selective preparation of different types of conjugates (labeling) of biopolymers and organic chemical aspects of protein sequencing, analysis of glycoconjugates and DNA sequencing. 2nd Part: Specific modifications of biologically relevant molecules to solve biochemical relevant questions discussed as specific examples from new literature. In the centre of this discussion are not the organic syntheses in detail but the overall strategies applied. The literature examples selected belong to the following themes: Lipopeptides and -proteins in signal transduction, immunological applications of peptides (synthetic vaccines), modification of nucleic acids, modified proteins, structure activity relationships for enzymes (inhibitors) and receptors.
