Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

In this lecture, focus lays primarily on clinical biomarkers and the importance of stratification markers which allow individualized therapies. Basic questions will be answered: What is a biomarker, how first biomarkers have been discovered, what are biomarkers used for, what is a “good” biomarker, how such biomarkers are validated, and how good are established ones? Furthermore, the kind of problems that are encountered when a new biomarker shall be determined – especially in the field of cancer research – will be discussed. Additionally, ethical aspects will be discussed.
