Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Supramolecular chemistry is based on intermolecular interactions. These strategies can be preferably applied via host-guest chemistry for selective enrichment of both neutral analytes and ions. These phenomena are described for gas phase and solutions by enthalpic and entropic contributions. Predictions are possible according to modelling, even entropy model considerations are successful. All these findings are discussed in detail e.g. for paracyclophanes, cyclodexctrines, Calixarenes and Calixresorcinarenes. In this way adsorption-/absorption isothermens are obtained which are of the Langmuir or BET model type. Especially crown ethers, cryptands and cyclic esters are of great importance for ion recognition. A quantitative description and analytical applications, even down to the trace level is possible by optical, electrochemical methods, NMR, and acoustic resonators.
