Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
This particle laboratory course will introduce concepts needed for the development of (novel) sustainable materials and provides hands-on experience in working with natural, renewable or recycled materials for the fabrication of textiles, structural or functional materials. The course offers supervised individual experiments in the laboratories of the Institute of Materials Chemistry & Research. The practice comprises the whole scientific process: experiment, data analysis and protocol in a communication letter like report.
Assessment and permitted materials
- discussion concerning the preparation (if applies)
- assessment of laboratory work
- original protocol/report
- optional: discussion on report
- for report writing external sources can be used obtaining the code of good scientific practise

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
- discussion concerning the preparation
- assessment of laboratory work
- protocol/report in form of a communication manuscript
It is expected that the students prepare the experiments by studying the literature defined by the supervisor. The working time in the laboratory is 3 weeks (120 h). A comprehensive data analysis with estimation of errors/data reliability/data quality is expected and a lab report in form of a communication manuscript has to be delivered within 2 weeks after finishing the practical part.Preparation is weighted 10%, laboratory work 30%, data analysis 25% and report 35%. If no literature for preparation was provided the other aspects are scaled accordingly.Minimum requirement is thorough conduction of the experiments according to the laboratory regulations and a satisfying laboratory report.
