Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
The lecture provides an overview of various methods for the preparation and thermodynamic characterization of inorganic materials. Materials, their nature, properties, and applications, as well as general problems of material preparation and selected methods not covered in other lectures in materials chemistry, are discussed. In addition, the various methods of measuring thermochemical properties are discussed. These include calorimetry, vapor pressure measurements, and electromotive force (EMF) measurements with solid or liquid electrolytes. An introduction to the fundamentals of thermodynamics will be given for a better understanding of the methods.
Assessment and permitted materials
Oral examination
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
The students should gain an overview about diferent inorganic materials, their constitution, preparation and application. The theoretical thermodynamic background of the most important methods for the thermochemical characterization of inorganic materials should be understood. Knowledge about experimental techniques, application and data interpretation is present.
Examination topics
The content of the lecture. There is a lot of emphasis on understanding.
Reading list
Manuscripts to the lecture and copies of journals and books are provided via Moodle
