Aims, contents and method of the course
During the practical course, selected methods for the preparation and the most important methods for the thermochemical characterization of solids are learned using modern techniques and equipment. Emphasis will be placed on direct synthesis methods, CVT(Chemical Vapor Phase Transport) and intercalation as well as the thermal and thermodynamic investigation methods such as DSC (Differential Scanning Calorimetry), thermogravimetry, isothermal calorimetry and EMF (Electromotive Force).Personal registration required, limited number of participants is 6
Assessment and permitted materials
Assessment based on the practical work and the protocols as well as a short final interview.
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Students acquire in-depth knowledge of various methods for the preparation and thermochemical characterization of inorganic compounds or alloys. They are introduced to the use of modern equipment and are able to interpret their measurement results.
Examination topics
Practical work in small groups on individual exercise examples.
Evaluation of the practical work and protocols as well as of a short final discussion.
