Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The students are familiar with the basics of hydrogeology, hydrochemistry and know important water pollutants. The students know the most important environmental geochemical reaction types in terrestrial and aquatic systems and have a basic understanding of their thermodynamics and kinetics. All materials will be uploaded for e-learning in Moodle.

Assessment and permitted materials

A maximum number of 105 points can be awarded to students participating in exams and exercises

A) Four Short Exams (total of 60 points):
Short exams (30-45 minutes) are held during the semester, each worth 15 points. The exam dates are
1. exam October 05. (Darsow); 2. exam: October 25 (Hofmann/vd Kammer); 3. exam: November 15 (Krämer); 4. exam November 30 (Hüffer/Zumstein).

B) Exercises (total of 45 points):
3 blocks (a. Hofmann/vdKammer; b. Krämer; c. Hüffer/Zumstein), each 15 points. Further details will be announced via Moodle.

There will be no possibility for repetition of examinations or exercises.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

A total of 105 points can be reached by successful participation of the exams, exercises, and the laboratory course. The points from all these activities are accumulated an the grade is applied to the total number of points reached during the semester. The following grading scheme will be applied:
% - Grade
> 87.5 - 1
75-87.49 - 2
62.5-74.99 - 3
50-62.49 - 4
0-49.99 - 5
At least 50 % of the total points (i.e. 52.5 points) need to be accumulated to pass.

Examination topics

1. Exam (15): Einführung Hydrogeology (Darsow)
1. Exercise and exam (30): Einführung Hydrochemie (Hofmann & vd Kammer)
2. Exercise and exam (30): Thermodynamic modelling, kinetics and redox processes (Krämer)
3. Exercise and exam (30): Env. organic chemistry (Zumstein and Hüffer)
