Aims, contents and method of the course

This course discusses metamorphic processes from the physical and chemical point of view and presents methods of paragenetic analysis. Contents: Petrogenetic environments; Factors controlling Metamorphism; The phase rule; Metamorphic facies and metamorphic series; Schreinemaker's rules; Graphical methods for paragenetic analysis; Phase diagrams; Continuous and discontinuous reactions; Prograde Metamorphism -Anatexis- Retrogression; Low, medium and high pressure metamorphism; Metamorphism and Deformation; Textures; Nomenclature of metamorphic rocks.
