Aims, contents and method of the course

Assessment and permitted materials

The examination of the course is based on four individual evaluations. The contribution of each part to the final grade of the course is given in brackets:

1. An oral group or individual presentation, dates will be scheduled on the first meeting on 04.03.2015 (20%)

2. Written exercises. 70% of presence at the exercise (Wednesday, 11:00-11:45) is mandatory. The exercises comprise 2 assignments:
Assignment A is due on 15.04.2015. (20%)
Assignment B is due on 03.06.2015. (20%)

3. Written examination on 17.06.2015 (40%)

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Goals: The students know the most important substances in water, they are familiar with speciation calculations and are capable to perform them independently, in particular that of carbonate. They know the environmentally most important redox systems and they can create EH-pH charts. They qualitatively and quantitatively understand the mechanisms of sorption and the transport of substances and can perform calculations independently.
