Aims, contents and method of the course

Lecture
(A) Experimental Approach (2 lecture units = 1 1/2 h)
(B) Experimental devices (5 lecture units = 3 3/4 h)
(C) Determining thermodynamic data (7 lecture units = 5 1/4 h)
(D) Kinetic Experiments (4 lecture units = 3 hours)

Exercise
Experiment 1: Alkali feldspar - halide melt partitioning: alkali feldspar mixing model
Experiment 2: Solid-state reaction in oxide systems
Experiment 3: Solid state and Flux Crystal Growths in the system BaO-SrO-CuO-SiO2
Experiment 4: Diamond-anvil cell: Preparation for in-situ measurement

Assessment and permitted materials

One written exam (90 Min) on lecture contents

Protocols on four experiments must be handed in by 29.7.2016 latest.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Attendance of the four exercises is compulsory, at least 75% attendance must be demonstrated. Each protocol is valid maximum 15 pts, the written exam is valid maximum 40 pts.

For passing this course at least 50 pts. (cumulative) are necessary.
