Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Students are familiar with basic experimental methods for determining thermodynamic and physical properties as well as kinetic behaviour of minerals, fluids, and melts. They are familiar with the links among measurable quantities and thermodynamic as well as physical parameters and are able to extract those from experimental results. They have acquired skills in mineralogical and petrological experimentation.

(A) Experimental Approach
(B) Experimental devices
(C) Determining thermodynamic data
(D) Kinetic Experiments

Exercise
Experiment 1: Alkali feldspar - halide melt partitioning: alkali feldspar mixing model
Experiment 2: Solid-state reaction in oxide systems
Experiment 3: Solid state and Flux Crystal Growths in the system BaO-SrO-CuO-SiO2
Experiment 4: Diamond-anvil cell: Preparation for in-situ measurement

Assessment and permitted materials

One written exam (60 Min) on lecture contents
