Main objective of the lecture is to give an introduction to general hydrogeology. It comprises an overview of most important Austrian water laws (WRG 1959, WGEV 1990; LG 1975), hydrogeological terms and definitions (EN, DIN, ÖNORM), the hydrological cycle, and the history of hydrology, hydrogeology and balneology.
An overview is given on the hydrogeologic provinces of Austria and on the international conflict potential of drinking water.
Relation between theory and practical exercises of 12 lecture units is 90:10. Optionally, an excursion to the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, Environment and Water is offered to get an insight to actual projects of the European water framework directive (EWD).
Lecture is good for 2.8 ECTS points. Certificate results from practical exercises and final oral examination. Script is available for students.
