Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
The students are familiar with the physical and chemical aspects of elemental analysis by means of an electron beam. They know about the construction and the functionalities of an electron probe micro analyser. The students can formulate analytical tasks independently and can develop an analytical protocol that is suited for accomplishing the task. The portfolio of methodological competences acquired during the course includes qualitative elemental analysis, imaging using electron- and X-ray signals and quantitative elemental analysis using reference materials.
Assessment and permitted materials
A customized user-manual produced individually by each student covering the entire method portfolio addressed during the course needs to be prepared. In addition, the students need to demonstrate their competence in practical elemental analysis.TL 1 Competence check on the instrument: The students perform analyses independently
TL 2: The students hand in their individual user manuals
TL 2: The students hand in their individual user manuals
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Attendance of the course on-site is obligatory. A minimum of 85% attendance is required to pass the course.Grading will be based on the demonstration of the user capabilities on the instrument and the individual user manuals.
