Aims, contents and method of the course

Beginning with the earliest explanations of fossils by Greek philosophers of classical antiquity, ideas regarding fossils as witnesses of the Flood, theories of catastrophism as well as Darwinism and other evolutionary models of 19th centur will be discussed, including palaeontological studies contributing to disputes evolution versus catastrophism.
