Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The course will be devoted to provide a basic knowledge of the geometric morphometrics. The theoretical course will focus on the following points:
- Introduction to geometric morphometrics: Definition and historical notes
- size and shape
- landmarks and semilandmarks
- Procrustes superimposition
- Relative warp analysis
- The morphospace
- Thin plate spline: Visualizing shape changes
- Statistics: PERMANOVA and ANOSIM
- Morphological disparity
- Partial least squares analysis (PLS)
- Applications: some case studies

Furthermore, students will learn through a tutorial to collect and analyze data using the software package TPS, and interpret the results.

Assessment and permitted materials
