Aims, contents and method of the course

The goal of this course is to provide an overview of some of the most famous Fossil-Lagerstätten of the world. After an introduction on the definition of Konservat- and Konzentrat-Lagerstätte, the course will focus on the following localities:
- Ediacara
- Burgess Shale
- Soom Shale
- Herefordshire
- Hunsruck
- Miguasha
- Bear Gulch
- Mazon Creek
- Karoo
- Ischigualasto
- Petrified Forest
- South China
- Triassic of Madagascar
- Holzmaden
- Solnhofen
- Dinosaurs Provincial Park
- Morrison Formation
- Italian dinosaurs
- Kansas Oceans
- Santana Formation
- The amber
- Green River Formation
- Bolca
- Messel
- Rancho La Brea
- Naracoorte

Furthermore, one day will be devoted to a field trip in one of the main paleontological sites of Austria (details will be provided later).

Assessment and permitted materials

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Min. 80/100%.

Examination topics

Examination will focus on a short presentation in power point (10-12 min) of a paleontological site not developed during the course chosen by the partecipant itself. The presentation should include Intro, geological setting, taphonomy, paleobiology/paleoecology.
