Classes
The course takes place from 18.02.2019 to 22.02.2019 in Seminarraum Paläontologie "Melchior Neumayr" 2A502 (UZA2). Potential room changes will be announced sufficiently ahead of time. It is mandatory and required to attend 100% of the course.
Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
Students know the basic equations for groundwater flow and transport in 3D space. They know analytical and numerical methods to solve flow and transport problems. They are able to build a simple groundwater model and understand boundary conditions, numerical discretization, calibration and validation of groundwater flow models.
Assessment and permitted materials
During the course, exercises with a total of 100 points have to be solved. For positive completion at least 51 points have to be attained AND 100% of presence at the course (18.02.2019 - 22.02.2019) is mandatory.
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
MA ERD 8 (for Master Earth Sciences) or 280215-1 VU PS2 Groundwater Systems (for Master Environmental Sciences)
Examination topics
Questions related to course content on numerical groundwater modeling as well as the construction of a simple 3D groundwater model from scratch according to instructions as well as its application answer simplified prediction and optimization tasks.
