Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Success of space projects frequently depends on detailed ground-based preparatory work (e.g., definition of target objects or fields). Similarly, observations from ground are usually necessary for a full recovery of the scientific content of space data (e.g., exoplanets). On the other hand, space projects deliver data of unprecedented quality and quantity, which could not be obtained from ground. Our institute is very well positioned in both action
fields by participating in international space experiments (BRITE, COROT, GAIA, Herschel, MOST, SPICA, etc.) and with equipment of the institute
(1.5m, 0.8m, and 0.6m telescopes), as well as via participating in the development of instrumentation at ESO and at other institutions (e.g., HET). The lecture shall review all these activities and motivate the audience to make maximum use of the demonstrated synergy.
