Theoretical fundamentals of the gridscale dynamics of the atmosphere, i.e.: Mean inviscid equations of motion, kinetic energy, barotropy, shallow water model, baroclinity, quasigeostrophic model, vorticity equation, thermal wind, barclinic instability, waves processes.
Knowledge and skill in theoretical reasoning, specifically: Design and solution of simple partial differential equations, linearization, scale analysis, isolation of wave processes, diagnostic and prognostic statements.
