Aims, contents and method of the course

Fundamental concepts and mathematical description of atmospheric dynamics. Understanding of atmospheric motions and simpified models for their description:
* Primitive equations in natural, isentropic and pressure coordinates
* Quasi-geostrophic equation system
* Omega-equation (vertical velocity in pressure coordinates)
* Circulation and vorticity
* Potential vorticity

Assessment and permitted materials

Oral exam, no auxiliary devices allowed.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Grade 5: < 50%
Grade 4: 50-62,5%;
Grade 3: 62,5-75%;
Grade 2: 75-87,5%;
Grade 1: > 87,5%
