The lecture describes the circumstances under which seismic waves propagate through the Earth's interior - from the hypocenter, where the waves are emitted up to the point where they are recorded and analyzed. Main topics are therefore the understanding of focal mechanisms, the structure of the Earth for wave progation, recording principles and analogue to digital conversion, and finally the interpretation of wave phases.
Seismometry: Development of Seismic Instruments
Restitution of Ground Motions: Transfer Function, Filter Theory, Sampling, Analogue to Digital Conversion
Seismic Sources: Models, Source Parameters, Errors
Interpretation of Seismograms: Nomenclature, Onsets, Determination of Source Parameters
Determination of the Earth Structure: Inversion Methods, Earth Structure
