Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The module complements the lecture course, where the basics of atmospheric dynamics are introduced, concerning
* Circulation and vorticity
* Waves in the atmosphere
* Barotropic dynamics
* Baroclinic dynamics: Quasi-geostrophic model

Assessment and permitted materials

The grading system is based on: i) homework; ii) blackboard performance; iii) a final exam. Homework and blackboard performance, altogether, account for 50% of the final grade (exercise points). The final exam accounts for the remaining 50% (exam points). To pass the course successfully, a minimum of 50% of the exam points and 50% of the exercise points is required.
At the beginning of each exercise session, a sheet is circulated on which students can tick what exercises they solved. During the session, students are asked to come to the blackboard and their performance is evaluated with a weighting factor of 0, 0.5, or 1.
At the end of the course, exercise points are calculated as (A/B)*C, where:
A: sum of points gained by ticking problems.
B: total points available.
C: mean weighting factor of the blackboard performances.
The worst homework session is not included in the computation ("void result").
