The course will be held in a block format. The exact dates will be announced during the introductory meeting. The course includes 5-6 introductory sessions prepared by the students and an 8-day excursion to the main observation facilities of the international measurement program TeamX. The introductory sessions will take place on Tuesdays from 08:45 to 09:45 in room 2G542.

Introductory meeting (mandatory attendance): March 4, 2023, 08:45-09:45, 2G542, UZA II, Josef-Holaubek-Platz 2, 1090 Vienna.

Excursion from July 4-11, 2025 (this date is not set in stone, but the excursion will take place in the first half of July). Locations: North Tyrol - Sarntal Alps (South Tyrol) - Trento.

Information

Aims, contents and method of the course


-Preparing short presentations on the research questions of TeamX
-Getting to know the leading observation facilities (supersites) during TeamX
-Conducting own measurements in the Sarntal Alps
-Writing an excursion report and measurement protocols

Assessment and permitted materials

-Attendance check at the preparatory meetings
-Evaluation of the presentation on a meteorological or aerosol physics topic of a high-altitude station (group work)
-Mandatory participation in the excursion
-Conducting simple measurements during the excursion
-Evaluation of the excursion report (group work)

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

-Participation in the preparatory meetings: 15%
-Presentation on a selected facility and topic (group work), 30-minute presentation + 15-minute discussion: 25%
-Participation in the excursion and conducting measurements: 35%
-Writing an excursion report, including the analysis of own measurements: 25%
