Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

In this course, students will learn Fortran95 and develop a 2D model simulating Rayleigh-Bénard convection from scratch. At the end of the semester, students can:
- Write, compile, and run Fortran95 programs
- Derive the nondimensional equations of motion for Rayleigh-Bénard convection
- Discretize these (and other) equations with finite differences and solve them numerically on a grid

Assessment and permitted materials

Weekly exercises, end-of-semester project

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

The grade will be based 70% on the exercises and 30% on the end-of-semester project.
Every exercise counts as partial achievement, and all partial achievements have to be completed.
