Aims, contents and method of the course

The principles of aviation meteorology are presented and put in concrete terms by showing examples from practice.
Specific topics covered by this lecture are: fundamentals of aerodynamics; meteorological elements in aviation; synoptic-, meso- and microscale phenomena and their implications on aviation; meteorological codes in aviation (METAR, TAF, SIGMET, AIRMET, ¿), weather charts, aviation weather forecasting, meteorological safety hazards in aviation (wind, wind shear, turbulence, icing, ¿); aviation accidents related to weather.
