Aims, contents and method of the course
The magnetic chemically peculiar (mCP) stars of the upper main sequence are perfectly suited to studying the effects of rotation, diffusion, mass-loss, accretion, and pulsation in the presence of an organized stellar magnetic field. Therefore, many important models can only be tested with this star group. In a case study (2022, A&A, 667, L10) we investigated the possibility of detecting the characteristic 520 nm flux depression via the tool of "Delta a photometry" of mCP stars using low-resolution BP/RP spectra of the Gaia mission. The latter clearly qualified to efficiently search for and detect mCP stars. We will search for new mCP stars using already existing tools. After the initial data analysis, we will compile the results needed for a paper in a peer-reviewed journal. An introduction to the basics needed for writing a scientific paper will be given. Early in the semester, we will start writing the final paper, which will be submitted at the end of the semester.
