Aims, contents and method of the course

Aims of the course
Students are able to analyze relationships between science/especially astronomy and society. They have an understanding of social power relations (e.g. in relation to gender, class and ethnicity and their intersectional interdependencies) as well as of developments in the history of science and current inequalities.
Contents of the course
The contents of the course can be assigned to the field of Gender and Intersectional Studies of Sciences, the lecturers come from this field, but also from the faculty.
Method of the course
The course is designed as a lecture series, i.e. it consists of a combination of public lectures and course units that prepare students for the presentations and enable them to participate in the discussion during the lectures. The lectures can be held in German or English.

Assessment and permitted materials

This is an examination-based course with several components and a final take-home exam.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

The assessment is made up of several areas:
- Participation in the course, such as participation in discussion, group work, reading, presentations
- Submission of work assignments on Moodle
- Attendance!
- Written exam in the form of a "take-home-exam"
Minimum requirement: Attendance 80% and at least 50% of the achievable points in each category (such as participation, HÜ and THE)
