Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The goal of this exercise class is for students to acquire a deeper understanding of the topics of T3 by solving and discussing selected problems. The topics covered in the exercises are based on the material discussed during the T3.
Participants have to solve a set of exercises prior to each session, which can be found on the Moodle-platform (https://moodle.univie.ac.at). At the beginning of the exercise session, students have to mark the exercises that they have prepared and that are willing to present and discuss at the blackboard (“crosslist” system). Participants can be selected to present one of the exercises they prepared. During the presentation of an exercise, members of the audience who have also marked it as prepared may be asked to answer related questions.

Assessment and permitted materials

During closure of the university: Exercises that have been worked on are ticked off in "crosslists", solutions to the exercises have to be uploaded to moodle and are checked and graded (written presentation). There will be one take-home exam.

After reopening of the university: Oral presentations and participation during the lesson plus “crosslists”, as well as one exercise exam.

Please note: Students in the 2015 bachelor curriculum have to pass both the PUE and the VO part of the module exam. Students in the 2019 curriculum have to pass the entire module exam.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

In total 100 points can be achieved:
• 30 points times the ratio of exercises marked as prepared (in the crosslist) over the total number of exercises.
• 30 points for the written test
• 40 points for the quality of presentations and participation in discussions. During closure of the university, these points are given for the written presentation of solutions.

Participants have to accumulate at least
• a minimum of 50 points overall, as well as
• at least half (50%) of the exercises crossed in the “crosslist” to pass the course.

If these requirements are met, the grade is determined according to the following scheme:
• 50-62 Punkte: Genügend (4)
• 63-75 Punkte: Befriedigend (3)
• 76-88 Punkte: Gut (2)
• 89-100 Punkte: Sehr gut (1)

The take-home test will be available through the Moodle platform between 13:00 of the 29th of May (Friday) to 13:00 of the 30th of May (Saturday). Within this time frame, students will have to solve the test and upload their solution on the Moodle page of the exercise group in which they are enrolled. The maximum score for the test is 30 points. Students should solve the test individually; the use of notes during the test is allowed.
