Aims, contents and method of the course
Lecture in Engl.) Tracing the formation and evolution of our Milky Way Galaxy (MWG) is possible applying the so-called population concept that allows to deconvolve evolutionary epochs by means of kinematics, ages, and chemistry of stars. From the derived evolutionary timescales of the MWG as a proto-typical gas-rich galaxy astrophysical processes which determine galaxy evolution are discussed and generalized considering the formation of protogalaxies, the dynamics of gas and stars, star formation, the conditions of the interstellar medium and, last but not least, the effects of the MWG environment.
