The topics will be prepared and presented in class by the students. Attendance of the course "Statistical Methods in Astronomy" (WS 2014/15) is an advantage but not a requirement.

Aims, contents and method of the course

In this seminar, statistical methods, as applied in current astronomical research, will be
presented and discussed. Selection of possible topics: - classification - clustering -
Bayesian model fitting - Bayesian model selection - Sampling methods (e. g. MCMC) -
time series analysis.
