Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Students will gain detailed insight into the formation and evolution of galaxies from both theoretical and observational perspectives.
Contents include: global cosmic evolution of luminosity, mass, size, star formation, metallicity, kinematics, and structure of galaxies; nuclear activity in galaxies; the role of the galaxy environment, external gravitational and hydrodynamic mechanisms such as tidal forces and ram pressure, and internal mechanisms such as stellar and AGN feedback in regulating galaxy evolution.

Assessment and permitted materials

There will be 1 written exam at end of semester and participants need to present a paper in the exercises. During exam no electronic or AI tools are allowed.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Minimum:
- Pass the written exam (>50% points)
- Pass the paper presentation.
- Final grade = Exams (60%) + Practical sessions (40%)

Examination topics

Lectures given during semester (copies of presentations).
