Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

More than 50% of all stars have variable properties on time scales ranging
from minutes to many months. Stars pulsate, have activity cycles, rotate
with inhomogeneous surfaces, are components of eclipsing systems, are
embedded in gas- and dust clouds, develop to novae or supernovae, etc.
These phenomena allow testing models of stellar structure and evolution
and hence are crucial for developing modern stellar-astrophysical theories.
The lectures focus on the observational aspects.
