Aims, contents and method of the course
This graduate seminar/journal "club" will discuss and analyze the classic and recent literature on one of the oldest and intractable problems in Earth history. We will review essentials of the Earth climate system and stellar (solar) evolution and discuss new data (Gaia, exoplanets) and new ideas (changing cloud or continental cover). Students will lead discussions of papers, prepare written analyses and critiques, and perform simple numerical experiments (knowledge of Python helpful). Students will have the option of participating in the writing of a review article for subsequent publication in a peerreviewed journal.
