The Preparatory Seminar (4 ECTS) is a compulsory seminar in the Master’s curriculum Astronomy 2023. Students registered in the Master’s Curriculum Astronomie 2016 can take this seminar as an elective course. This course is offered every semester.

Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The students will get information on a variety of project from which they can choose the topic of their Master's project. Students will be able to conduct a comprehensive literature research on the chosen topic and to formulate scientific questions for this purpose and to approach their solution systematically. Students are able to write and present a research exposé. Students register their master's project after having the kick-off-meeting and signing the learning agreement.

Assessment and permitted materials

Students will choose a Master’s project and get ready start with the analysis and results of their project during the Research Seminar (carried out in the following semester). This includes carrying out a comprehensive literature review and summarize the scientific context/question in the exposé.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

To pass the course students should fulfill all of the following:
- Choose topic/supervisor
- Hand in an exposé of the topic
- Have the kick-off-meeting and signing the learning agreement
- Register the Master’s project in SSC
The final grade will be given by the supervisor after grading the exposé.
