UE: Understanding, analysing and modelling Earth Surface Dynamics – Norway Excursion 2022
The UE (exercise) will be held as a 12-day excursion in the summer semester 2022. The excursion will take place in the southern part of Norway between the 4th and 15th of July 2022. An introductory meeting will take place on Wednesday, 30.03.2022, 16:45-18:15 h. The presence at this meeting is mandatory. In this meeting further details about the route will be presented and organizational topics will be discussed.

Within the excursion a broad variety of geographical topics will be discussed, from past and present glacier changes, geomorphological landforms and processes, natural hazards, tourist exploitation and the interaction between natural and cultural landscapes. The activities will include longer hikes, visits of museums and research stations and meetings with experts of different fields.

Arrival and departure will be self-organized. Getting around in Norway will be by own or hired busses with ~6 people per vehicle, participants are expected to drive on their own. We will camp in tents during the entire trip, so please ensure to have proper equipment (will be discussed in the first meeting) with you and be aware of the sometimes demanding weather conditions.

Active participation is essential for a lively and instructive trip. Participants are expected to give presentations on site in Norway on a topic of their choice. A selection of thematic complexes will be suggested in the introductory meeting, but potential topics are not limited to these complexes.

Following the excursion, participants are obliged to develop outreach formats of their choice in groups which will be presented at a final meeting in early October 2022. Outreach formats can comprise posters, video blog, etc. It is anticipated that one group is preparing a presentation about the excursion which will be publicly presented in the winter term 2022.
