Aims, contents and method of the course
During the course basic image processing steps (global and local grey scale value operations, filtering, geocoding, classification, Image merging), which are presented theoretical in the Wintersemester, are discussed and applied to satellite images. ERDAS Imagine is used as image processing software. The practical work is performed in small groups on PCs in the GIS lab.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
The course aims at providing practical expertise in the processing of digital satellite imagery.
Examination topics
Earth observation from space borne sensors is a fast developing technology. New fields of remote sensing application are evolving due to the improvement of spatial and spectral resolution. But data acquisition alone is not sufficient to benefit from these technological developments. It is rather necessary to develop methods and techniques for transforming the huge amount of data acquired by satellite sensors into useful information for the different fields of application. A prerequisite to perform this task is not only the knowledge of basic principles of remote sensing but also expertise in computer assisted processing of digital imagery.
