Aims, contents and method of the course

History of Cartography, Part one

The first part of these courses in the History of Cartography deals with the periode "From the Beginning up to the Second Half of the 15th Century":
-History of Cartography as a part of cartography as a science
-Scientific approaches in the History of Cartography
-Materials used in Cartography and their nature
-Cartography in Prehistoric Europe and the Mediterrenean
- Cartography in Ancient Europe and the Mediterrenean (Cartography in Ancient Near East, Egyptian Cartography, Greek and Roman Cartography)
-Cartography in Medieval Europe and in Islamic Societies
- Medieval Seacharts (Portolan charts)
