Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

To better understand how the complex interplay between plate-tectonics (Indo-Eurasian-Collision Zone) and orogenic processes in a basin-and-range-type mountain belt (Tien Shan), further focussing on related geomorphic implications for landscape and society (e.g. rock avalanches, glazial outburst floods) in the following regions:
Bishkek-Bielogorka-Aksu (rockslides), Suusamyr Valley (traces of the 1992 earthquake), Kokomeren and Djumgal Valleys (landslides), Sonkul and Issyk-Kul lakes (agriculture and tourism), Chong-Aksu and Chong-Kemin Valleys (consequences of the 1911 earthquake), Bishkek (Kyrgyz Range, Alamedin and Ala-Archa Valley National Parks: glacier retreat, conservation)
