Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Minimum 80% attendance in the common course time as well as in the individual discussions in groups.For a positive assessment of the course, a minimum of 60 out of 100 points is required on the individual submissions, participation and group assignments.Grading key:

80 to 89 points: Good
70 to 79 points: Satisfactory
60 to 69 points: Sufficient

Aims, contents and method of the course
Contents of the course are various methods of empirical social research and their implementation. Central working steps of conducting and analysing interviews as well as implementing and analysing a quantitative survey will be practiced in a small research project.Objectives: Students will be able to
- compare different approaches to empirical research;
- evaluate quality criteria of empirical research on the basis of concrete implementations in practice;
- plan work steps of empirical research projects;
- name and independently implement central points to be observed when conducting interviews and surveys;
- critically assess the possibilities of using central survey and evaluation methods;
- explain and independently apply basic techniques for evaluating surveys and interviews;
- critically classify different forms of presenting empirical results;
- classify and critically assess empirical research with regard to its methodology.Methods: Preparation and discussion of basic texts, summary input from the course leader, online tests, submission of individual empirical work assignments, two individual discussions in groups with the course leader, carrying out and presenting a research project as group work.
