Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Compared to European cities, US-American cities show signals of growth and decline more clearly. This pronounced polarization is on the one hand a consequence of the dominance of a liberal market and on the other hand of the absence of interceding policy.

During the course, examples for growing and declining cities will be analyzed as well as the reasons and consequences of these processes. Due to the actuality of the topic, the participants will also have to focus on the causes of financial crisis and its impact on US-American cities.
The field-trip takes part during Feb 10-24, 2012 (tbc). Current route: Chicago - Detroit - Toronto - New York City.

Prolongation of the stay (including individual return flight) in the U.S. is possible and required, as the Annual Conference of the Association of American Geographers takes place in NYC from Feb 24-28, 2012. See also: http://www.aag.org/cs/annualmeeting
