Aims, contents and method of the course

In the main part an overview of the main paradigms of science insofar as relevant for geography and spatial planning is presented: Positivism, Logical Empiricism, Critical Rationalism, Hermeneutics, Constructivism, Critical Theory, System Theory, Postmodernity, Transdisciplinarity. Subsequently, issues of paradigmatic diversity and competition are discussed. Eventually, recommendations for the design and organization of practical research will be given. As you know: Nothing is as practical as a good theory! (Kurt Lewin)
Im letzten Teil des Kurses präsentieren Studierende ihr Forschungskonzept und reflektieren es in methodologischer Hinsicht.
In the last part of the course students will present their research concept und reflect it in the light of methodological aspects.

Assessment and permitted materials

Presentation and methodological reflection of the own PhD- resp. Master Project or written test at the end of the term.
