Aims, contents and method of the course
Based on examples participants will learn how the use the often complex tools of geographic information systems by using a desktop GIS (ArcView). Focus is laid on how to prepare existent data for the use in a GIS (e.g. combine geometry and statistical data) and visualize them in a cartographic way.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Studierende sollten nach Abschluss der Lehrveranstaltung das theoretische Basiswissen der Vorlesung praktisch anwenden können. Sie sollen mittels GIS-Software auf Grund von bereitgestellten Daten einfache Verarbeitungs-, Analyse- und Layoutfunktionen anwenden können. Dies beinhaltet im Wesentlichen die Integration statistischer Daten und deren Verknüpfung mit der Geometrie, sowie die kartografische Visualisierung des Ergebnisses in From von Flächen- und Figurenkartogrammen.
