Content of the course:
Are social area analyses a tool to understand the city as a living space of various people? These analyses follow either a city approach or a city quarter approach.
On the example of Leopoldau, an area of urban extention in the east of Vienna, students get introduced to the city quater approach. During the last years, especially the city quarter social area analyses are carried out in interdisciplinary teams, working with a broad mix of methods and triangulative analysis.
This seminar offers an overview of the subject, introduces various methods and discusses the interrelations of social area analysis, participation and planning processes. In addition, guest speakers will share their experiences of current practice.
The methods of the course include an introduction lecture, inputs of guest speakers, an excursion, the application of one selected method, presentations and discussions.
