The lecture and seminar on the fundamentals of science for Physical Geography starts with a review of mathematical principles. Based on these principles, physical and chemical fundamentals are explored. Specific focus is on mechanics, thermodynamics, energy and optics. Atomic and nuclear physics is briefly discussed, but more extensively covered in the lecture in the following semester. The chemical basics include the concept of periodic table of the elements, different types of bindings as well as different types of chemical reactions. Within the seminar, the students will perform excercises from the field of Physical Geography for each lecture.
