Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

At the beginning the main important terms like landscape, ecology, nature etc will be defined. Thereafter different theoretical scientific methods of landscape ecological research will be presented. Then the inorganic as well as organic factors that act at a specific site will be discussed. The following landscape ecological factors and their regulating functions will be analysed:
Geologic and morphologic factors (rock type, relief etc)
Soil
Climatic factors (radiation, heat, precipitation etc.)
Biotic factors (material cycles, successions etc.)
Examples of ecologically effective projects.

Assessment and permitted materials

The examination will be a written test. ( 1. time at the end of the running term, 2.time at the beginning of the next term et.)

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

The aim of this course is to provide the students with the ability to understand the correlations of abiotic and biotic factors. Only then it is possible to evaluate the natural potential of an area and to assess the possible stress endurance of the ecosystem.

Examination topics

The subject will be taught in form of a lecture . PowerPoint, slides and overheads will illustrate the topic. In the following summer term this theoretical topic will be supplemented by practical field work (Excercises in landscape ecology).
