Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

After completing the course, students will be able to publish and manage different types of GIS resources on the web using ArcGIS Enterprise. This includes the optimization of the data as well as the right choice of web application. In a project work the students will be able to use the knowledge gained from the units to create a self-chosen topic as web application.

Topics:
1. Introduction to WebGIS and web mapping
2. ArcGIS Enterprise in theory and practice (ArcGIS Server, ArcGIS Online, Portal for ArcGIS)
3. Geodata preparation for web mapping in ArcGIS Pro
4. Getting to know different types of web-based map services (Map Services, Feature Services, Image Services, Geoprocessing Services, Vector Tile Services)
5. Introduction to the administration interfaces of ArcGIS Enterprise (ArcGIS Server Manager for administration of services, Portal for ArcGIS for administration of group and user permissions)
6. Creation of custom GIS web mapping applications (WebApp Builder, Esri Story Map)

Assessment and permitted materials

- Teamwork through group final project
- personal contribution of the students (theory examination, project work, active cooperation)

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Basic skills: ArcGIS Desktop (ArcGIS Pro)

evaluation criteria:
20% Continuous participation (attendance, theory check, sub tasks)
30% theory exam on the computer
50% Project work (incl. presentation)

A positive graduation is given from an overall rating of more than 50%.
