Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Goals:
Students will be able to publish and manage different types of GIS resources on the web using ArcGIS Enterprise upon completion of the course. This includes data optimization and proper web application selection. In a project work, students will independently create a self-selected topic as a web application using the knowledge gained from the units.

Contents:
In this course different topics will be presented.
1. introduction to the topics WebGIS and Webmapping
2. ArcGIS Enterprise in theory and practice (ArcGIS Server, ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Enterprise Portal)
3. geodata preparation for webmapping in ArcGIS Pro
4. getting to know different types of web-based map services
5. introduction to the administration interfaces of ArcGIS Enterprise
6. creation of custom GIS web mapping applications (ArcGIS Dashboards, ArcGIS Experience Builder, ArcGIS StoryMaps)
7. introduction to Leaflet.js and the creation of simple open source based WebGIS applications

Methods:
Hands-On / home exercises, Group work, presentation and discussion.

Assessment and permitted materials

- Presentation of a project work
- Timely submission of a project work
- Timely, correct submission of exercises
- Checks at the beginning of the units
- Participation in discussion

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Minimum requirement:
- Compulsory attendance - students are allowed two absences
- Presentation of project work is mandatory
- Project work after acquiring competencies from the course
- Basic knowledge of ArcGIS Desktop (ArcGIS Pro)

Evaluation measure:
- Presentation and project work (given/agreed deadline must be met): 50 points.
- Work assignments (given/agreed deadline to be met): 20 points
- Performance reviews at the beginning of the unit: 20 points
- Participation in the discussion phases (constructive, technically correct contributions and engagement in the discussion of the presentations): 10 points

More than 60 points are required for a passing grade in the course.

4. 69-60 points
5. 59-0 points.
