Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Digital applications in the field of geodata visualization usually have more or less extensive interaction options and can therefore be understood as Graphical User Interfaces (GUI). These GUIs can be described using various interaction primitives (e.g. zoom, pan, search functions) as well as higher-level parameters (e.g. visual complexity). The aim of the course is to provide students with the skills to plan and implement interactive visualizations of geodata as GUIs and to evaluate their user experience (UX). Students:

can visualize spatial topics through interactive cartographic products
know design patterns of digital products (e.g. dashboards) and can apply them practically
know the basics of interface design and user experience (UI & UX) and can classify and differentiate these terms in relation to geodata visualization
know relevant usability standards
know basic empirical methods for evaluating UX and UI can apply them
know statistical methods of data analysis and can apply them

Assessment and permitted materials

interactive learning, practical work with special software, teamwork and group-oriented learning

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
