Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The excursion focuses on central as well as complementary themes of Human Geography and Landscape Ecology. As an introduction some relevant parameters of both areas will be stressed. Regarding Human Geography we will discuss elements of Political as well as Economic Geography and Spatial Planning (e.g. development of suburban and rural spaces, nature conservation). Furthermore, some methodological aspects of Human Geography will be discussed. In the physio-geographical context, the excursion considers mainly soil formation and landscape evolution of the Neusiedler See and the Leithagebirge. In the framework of landscape ecology, we present geology, climate data, lake level variations as well as the outstanding characteristic plant association of the excursion area. The soils are presented by drillings. The observation of birds is offered during a visit to the small salt lakes of the Seewinkel.
