Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Aim and content of the proseminar:

The students recognize current conflicts as large local and global challenges and have taken first steps in understanding them from a spacial, political, social and economical perspective.

The students recognize basic mechanisms of conflict and backgrounds (e.g. political conflicts of interest, distribution inequalities, power struggles, fake news and manipulation of the media, growth and crisis, economic and ecological regulation and deregulation...) as core aspects and consequences of human action. From rhese, they can deduct processes of teaching and studying political education.

Students are able to comprehend, compare, assess and critically query selected conflicts regarding the curriculum, brokerage interests and basic concepts from the local to the global dimension. In this way, they gain a multiperspectual access to teaching geography and and economics.

Students dissect conflict causes and backgrounds and can transfer their discoveries to multiple aspects of their learning and living environment. This boosts their individual competencies in conflict resolution.

Methodical approach:

In small teams, students will research current conflict scenarios with reference to teaching secondary level geography and economics. They will research a specific conflict setting, evaluate and then develop didactically useable teaching scenarios. Using microteaching, segments of these will be presented in the proseminar and discussed in the plenum.
